German alpine legend Rosi Mittermaier passed away on Wednesday at the age of 72, surrounded by his family. The two-time Olympic champion was seriously ill.

Mittermaier will be missed especially by her husband Christian Neureutherthe couple’s children Amelie and Felix Neureuther and grandchildren.

It is a real alpine skiing family, as Christian and Felix have also been successful in alpine skiing. Christian won six World Cup events in slalom and was at his best Fifth in the Olympics. In Felix’s trophy cabinet, instead, you can find the World Cup silver and two World Cup bronze medals.

Mittermaier won Olympic gold in both the slalom and the plunge at the Innsbruck Games in 1976. He also took the Olympic silver in the giant slalom from the same Games. The woman ended her handsome career after that cannon season at the age of 25.
