Alphaville singer Marian Gold does not rule out a return of founding member Bernhard Lloyd to the German synthpop band.

For the current album “Eternally Yours” he worked again with the keyboardist, said Gold in a conversation with “t-online.de” on Wednesday.

He had re-recorded Alphaville songs with the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg. “I had a lot of support from Bernd on the project because it was partly about going back into the arrangements. Bernd has this huge sound archive. Now he could help us with it,” said Gold. The singer is the last original member of the current band line-up.

Also new music with Lloyd under the name Alphaville is not excluded. “It’s entirely possible that we could do it. We’ve both gotten older,” Gold said. “You have to think of it this way, our musical relationship was based on a very, very strong friendship. But after the first ten years of Alphaville, our relationship became something of a marriage. That marriage became a prison.”

In the meantime, they are again “super relaxed” in dealing with each other. However, they never discussed Lloyd’s return to Alphaville. “I don’t see myself as the one who has to take the first step,” said the singer.

The band was founded in Münster, Westphalia, and landed a global hit in 1984 with their first single “Big In Japan”. In addition to Gold and Lloyd, the founding trio included keyboarder Frank Mertens, who left the band after the debut album.
