Last year, Flemish Minister Hilde Crevits launched a call to all 285 Flemish municipalities to set up such a register or nurturing place. That call clearly had an effect: the number of star registers increased from 196 to 262 municipalities, good for 92 percent. Of the 23 municipalities that do not yet have one, fifteen indicated that they are working on it.
“It is gratifying to see that so many local authorities are actively working on this,” says Crevits. “What started with one pioneering municipality in May 2023 has today grown into a broadly supported initiative.”
