In Kazakhstan, during the protests, 5.8 thousand people were detained, 125 criminal cases were opened, reported press service of President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev based on the results of the meeting of the operational headquarters.

Among the detained were “a significant number of foreigners,” the headquarters said at a meeting. The Kazakh authorities also clarified that the security forces are now investigating the location of the “terrorists” for their arrest, collecting evidence and conducting expert examinations. “Checkpoints have been set up, a number of strategic facilities have been transferred to the united peacekeeping contingent of the CSTO member states. The power structures continue to “clean up” the settlements, “the press service said.

By now, law enforcement officers have established control over all administrative buildings in all regions of Kazakhstan, they also said at the meeting. The situation in the country is stabilized, the country’s authorities concluded.

On the morning of January 9, the Kazakh Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that 5135 people were detained during the riots. Among them were 135 people who are suspected of committing especially grave crimes, they were placed in temporary detention facilities (IVS). 516 people were arrested, the ministry said, while others are still being checked.
