In Kazakhstan, during the protests, 5.8 thousand people were detained, 125 criminal cases were opened, reported press service of President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev based on the results of the meeting of the operational headquarters.

Among the detained were “a significant number of foreigners,” the headquarters said at a meeting. By now, law enforcement officers have established control over all administrative buildings in all regions of Kazakhstan, they also said at the meeting. The situation in the country is stabilized, the country’s authorities concluded.

On the morning of January 9, the Kazakh Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that 5135 people were detained during the riots. Among them were 135 people who are suspected of committing especially grave crimes, they were placed in temporary detention facilities (IVS). 516 people were arrested, the ministry said, while others are still being checked.
