Almost 3 million tickets sold for World Cup in Qatar: ‘The world is enthusiastic’ | World Cup football

Almost 3 million tickets have been sold for the World Cup in Qatar, the organization and world football association FIFA report. The first edition of the World Cup final tournament in the Middle East and the Arab world starts on November 20 at the Al Bayt Stadium in Doha.

“We have always said that Qatar will host the best edition of the World Cup ever. And if you now look around the country, to the very latest stadiums, the training fields, the metro and the further infrastructure, you see that everything is ready and that everyone is welcome,” said Gianni Infantino of FIFA World Football Association. “The world is excited. Qatar is ready. Together we will make it the best World Cup ever, on and off the field.”

The organizers announced that 2.89 million tickets have been sold for the 64 games in the eight stadiums. Demand for tickets was highest from Qatar fans, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, Argentina, France, Brazil and Germany.

There is also a lot of criticism in the run-up to the World Cup. The working group of the European football association UEFA for human and labor rights in Qatar, of which the Netherlands is a member, has called on FIFA to respond to questions about setting up a compensation fund for migrant workers in Qatar before the end of the month. The money is to be used to pay back wages and to compensate families of deceased migrant workers, among other things. There is also criticism of the human rights situation in the country.

The Netherlands will play the first group match at the World Cup against Senegal on November 21 (5 pm Dutch time). The team of national coach Louis van Gaal will also play against Ecuador and against host country Qatar.
