Almaty Airport will not work until midnight on January 9

The Almaty airport will not work until midnight on January 9 (21:00 Moscow time), the press service of the air harbor said.

According to RIA News, the airport will inform additionally about further decisions regarding the work schedule.

Mass protests began in the first days of January in two cities of Kazakhstan – Zhanaozen and Aktau. Then the protests spread to other cities. Demonstrators opposed the rise in the price of liquefied gas. Soon, the demonstrations turned into riots, pogroms and clashes with the security forces. The looting began militants appeared on the streetswho began to attack government agencies. The authorities declared a state of emergency until January 19.

The leadership of Kazakhstan appealed to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) with a request for support. The member countries of the organization sent peacekeepers to the republic.
