Almaty airport taken under control of Russian peacekeepers

Russian paratroopers sent to Kazakhstan as part of the CSTO peacekeeping mission, together with the republic’s law enforcement agencies, took full control of the Alma-Ata airport. In addition, the servicemen ensure the security of the Russian consulate general and other important facilities, said the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Major General Igor Konashenkov.

Units of the 45th separate brigade of the special forces of the Airborne Forces, the 98th airborne division of the Airborne Forces and the 31st separate brigade of the Airborne Forces were sent from Russia to the republic. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stressed that all servicemen have special training and real combat experience.
