(toskanews) — The arrival of spring brings with it an increase in the concentration of pollen in the air and, for millions of people, the return of the symptoms of allergic rhinitisa pathology which in Italy affects approximately 25% of the population but which is still often underestimated and underdiagnosed. So, to turn the spotlight on this condition, comes «Shots of rhinitis: the grimaces that aren’t funny», an information campaign promoted by AAIITO with a photographic exhibition hosted from 17 to 20 March at Cascina Cuccagna in Milan.

«The AAIITO intent is to raise public awareness by bringing clinical data, but not only: using the photographic tool to capture the visible aspects, such as the sneeze and the grimaces that the patient makes to soothe the symptoms – he explains Francesco Murzillipresident of AAIITO —. The tool entrusted to the photographer Giorgio Galimberti it serves to grasp the emotional aspects and difficulties of the experience that hide behind this pathology.”

The challenge is to tell, through faces and stories, a condition that affects the quality of life but which can be treated effectively. «This pathology, which everyone thinks is just a bit of sneezing, actually impacts relationships – he says Simona Barbagliapresident of Let’s Breathe Together APS —. These people live with headaches, difficulty concentrating and sleeping. Knowing is essential to have access to individualized paths and concrete answers.”

The project, launched in collaboration with the non-conditioning contribution of SIGNATURE (Menarini Group)aims to promote early diagnosis. «Being an allergy patient, I know what it is – underlines the photographer Giorgio Galimberti —. I tried to give a theatrical texture to the subjects, transforming suffering into images. It was complicated, and at times fun, to cause sneezing during the shooting.”
