All league games in Niko Kovac’s career in TM database: Oberliga Berlin 90/91 complete

The TM database has been enriched by another milestone: the 1990/91 season of the Oberliga Berlin, the third-highest German division at the time, can be called up complete with all statistics and game reports. From now on, all league games in the playing career of ex-Bayern coach Niko Kovac will be displayed on Transfermarkt. The then 18-year-old midfielder made 25 appearances for FC Hertha 03 Zehlendorf, scored seven goals and recommended a move to Hertha BSC.

Other well-known players in the season at the time were Mustafa Kurt, who played for SC Freiburg and Fenerbahce in the course of his career and was top scorer for runner-up Türkiyemspor in the season with 22 goals, the former Nuremberger Helmut Rahner (Blau-Weiss 90 Berlin II) or Almedin Civa, who played for KFC Uerdingen 05 and Babelsberg 03 in the 2nd Bundesliga and played for Champion Tennis Borussia Berlin in 90/91.

TeBe fought a hard-fought race for the championship with spectator magnet Türkiyemspor until the end. Before the 29th of 30 match days, Türkiyemspor led TeBe by one point, then they met head-to-head: The “Veilchen” won 5-0 away in front of 6,984 fans and also won the last game 2-1 against Tasmania and thus secured the win rank one. In the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga, however, the Berliners clearly failed and took last place in the group of five. FC Remscheid rose instead.
