A social drama on the problem of evictions
First film as director of the Spanish-Argentine actor Juan Diego Botto (who plays Cruz’s husband in the film), All in one day And a denunciation film that addresses the problem of housing and evictionsa true social plague, even in Spain.
The film is supported by a frenetic pace and a more than noble intention intersects three stories but fails to delve into the three characters protagonists with the same precision. It’s the fault of an excessively layered screenplay which sometimes gets lost in unnecessary digressions. Some moments, however, leave their marklike the scenes of the elderly Teodora and her son without art or role, who blames himself for having squandered the family fortune.
Set in the suburban neighborhoods of a dark Madrid crushed by lack of work, All in one day photographs a dramatic social reality: it is therefore a film of denunciation of social injustices and psychological violence suffered by the weakest groups of the population. Also producer, Penélope Cruz she is very good in the role of mother couragealmost a Spanish version of Anna Magnani. A heartfelt and passionate interpretation that brought her a well-deserved victory nomination for the Goya awards.
