Hundreds of people today took a look behind the walls of the asylum seekers’ center in Hoogeveen. The AZC opened its doors because of the National Burendag to give people a glimpse into the daily lives of the residents.
Where open days were opened elsewhere in the country for safety reasons canceledthe AZC in Hoogeveen opened to the public as planned. According to the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA), no concrete signals of possible unrest were received by the police or the municipality and so the party could continue as usual.
Resident Ali Mouhsen from Iraq is at the entrance of the AZC to wait for visitors. Today he gives tours through the center, to give people an idea of what it is like to live in the AZC.
At the start of the Tour, Mouhsen gives visitors, just like the residents of the AZC, an explanation of the house rules. Then everyone receives a sheet package and they are guided to one of the bedrooms, which is shared by four people. There are two bunk beds in the room, a small television, a table and a cupboard for each.
