Two ski jumpers fell heavily this weekend. Now there is a debate about women’s suits.

These events are worried about the women’s ski jumping world: Last Thursday, the Austrian Eva Pinkelnig fell heavily in the Summer Grand Prix competitions and suffered a tear of the front cruciate ligament in the left knee, a tear of the interior and outdoor meniscus and cartilage damage on the normal hill. Now another ski jumper fell.

On Friday evening it also met the Canadian Alexandria Loutite, who is privately with Austria’s ski jumping star Daniel Tschofenig. The 21-year-old from Calgary also suffered a knee injury. According to initial findings, it is also a cruciate ligament tear for her. This threatens the young athlete for the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo next year.

Because another athlete, Japanese Haruka Kasai, had fallen in the Nordic combination, a debate about the suits of the ski jumpers has also flared up. Austria’s association withdrew his jumpers on Saturday “for security reasons” from the competition in Predazzo, the Olympic town.

ÖSV jumper Chiara Kreuzer said on ORF: “Even if we always fight for equality, I think you should take a step back to slow down a bit and that we are more harmonious to land.” Mathias Häfele, material boss in the World Association FIS, said: “You can make the suit from the volume larger and change the stride length. These are the two factors where you can get the easiest.”
