A serious injury was already feared. Now it’s clear: Liverpool star Alexander Isak will be out for a long time.
Liverpool’s star striker Alexander Isak will be missing from the Premier League club for a long time. As the “Reds” confirmed on Sunday, the 26-year-old suffered an ankle injury and a fractured fibula in the 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday.
Isak has already had successful surgery on his ankle, the statement said. His recovery will now continue at the club’s training center. Liverpool did not provide any information about exactly how long Isak will be out. However, an outage of several months is expected.
Isak gave Liverpool the lead against Tottenham after an assist from Florian Wirtz. The 26-year-old was brought down by ex-Wolfsburg player Micky van de Ven while finishing. The Swede, who was under contract with BVB between 2017 and 2019, twisted his left foot violently and lay on the ground in pain. The substitution followed immediately, and he was supported by supervisors when he left the pitch.
Isak only moved to Anfield from Newcastle United last summer for 145 million euros. Since then, the striker hasn’t really been able to convince. In 16 games he has only scored three goals and one assist so far. No more will be added for the time being.
