Despite the fact that Belgium already started some strong names in the Mixed Relay – including Jonathan Sacoor and Daniël Segers – a strong team was at the start at the 4×400 meters. Christian Iguacel, Robin Vanderbemden, Dylan Borlée and West Flanders Alexander Doom formed the team. Doom got the baton as the last runner and won the victory in an exciting ending in a sprint against Great Britain, which previously took bronze at the Paris Games.
Doom once again proved himself as an absolute value in the Belgian relay team. His impressive final sprint not only yielded a place in the final, but also assured Belgium immediately from participating in the World Cup in Tokyo. The first two teams from each series went directly on, supplemented with the two best losing times. In total, the top fourteen from the World Relays can go to the World Cup.
