Alexander Zverev also left the tournament early at the ATP Masters in Miami. Germany’s best tennis player was self -critical after the bankruptcy in the round of 16 against Arthur Fils. Compared to the last games, he still saw a small positive trend. In the ATP ranking, however, this does not take him any step further, Boris Becker is also surprised.

“I think I’ve definitely played better here than in the past few weeks,” said Alexander Zverev after 6: 3, 3: 6, 4: 6 in Miami against Arthur Fils from France.

He meant above all the good start in the first sentence, but when he also benefited from the many mistakes of the opponent. A break at the end of the first round ultimately submitted the lead, and he completed the set win with a massive ASS.

But even in the third set, the Hamburgers are in the meantime a break to 3: 1, but the game cannot decide in its favor. Fils had come into play better after the first set after a physio treatment, and Zverev’s mistakes increased. “There is no reason for me to lose this match,” said the 27-year-old self-critically.

“At the moment I just lose a lot of matches from a winning position. I have to change that,” added Zverev: “I have recently lost a lot of games that I had the feeling that I couldn’t control them. It was similar again today. I have to look at myself, more than everything else.”

The form crisis continues for the time being. Zverev: “I am just disappointed. To be honest, I just think of my flight home.”

Sinner does not play, but remains undisputed – Becker too is surprising

At the Masters in Florida, Alexander Zverev actually wanted to take a step towards the top of the world. After his crashing kick-off at the Masters in Indian Wells, he could have made it up to the world ranking of Jannik Sinner in Miami. The Italian sits his three -month lock by the beginning of May.

Alexander Zverev is miles away from his goal of pushing the 23-year-old from the throne in his absence. Due to his defeat against Fils, Sinner has now brought in more points at the Australian Open and the two Masters in the USA as Zverev – without having played in Indian Wells and Miami. Sinner comes to 2000, Zverev on 1665.

In other words, Sinner keeps his place in the sun, although he only played one tournament in 2025. The second -placed Zverev, on the other hand, already played seven tournaments, but remains many points behind it. The German tennis icon Boris Becker also rubs its eyes in astonishment. “Wow”, he briefly wrote to a post on X from the Portuguese reporter JosĂ© Morgado.

From Jannik Sinner’s perspective, there could have been a better time for his lock.
