FOOTBALL – Alcides has to fear participating in the playoffs against relegation. The Meppelers played a creditable game against leader TOGB this afternoon, but lost: 0-2. As a result, TOGB has come very close to the championship and Alcides is still one point from the ‘safe’ De Zouaven.
There are still two matches to play in the main division A. Alcides will play at home against VOC on Sunday and then close with a match against Purmersteijn. Competitor De Zouaven will receive the final SDO on Sunday and will go to VOC on the last match day, which is Sunday 6 June.
The game shown this afternoon, against TOGB, gives the supporters of the yellow-blacks hope. The guests, who won the period title this afternoon, had the ball a lot, but the home team did not give away many opportunities. Still, a defensive error by Alcides gave the guests the lead after half an hour. The captain of the guests, Bas Mourits, was already tired of that goal – according to Alcides – a smell of offside.
Even after the break, there were few chances for both sides, so Alcides was allowed to hope for a point and therefore a stunt for a long time. Just before time, substitute Roy Kuiers was close to equalizing, but his header was turned by TOGB goalkeeper Moreno Zwarteveld. And where one substitute didn’t score, another substitute did. From a counter, Guus Steerneman was allowed to shoot in the liberating 0-2.
