Alcarràs – The last harvest: the review of the film by Carla Simón

TOLCARRÀS – THE LAST HARVEST

Like many professions, agriculture and the lifestyle associated with it are also being updated (perhaps disappearing).

In the film “Alcarràs” also non-professional actors (photo by Lluís Tudela).

The film by the young Catalan director who won the last Berlinale squares an emblematic clash (and a contemporary paradox): to grow fruit trees or install solar panels?

Can the green revolution force a family that has been living off the peach harvest for generations (but has failed to sign documents certifying ownership of the land) to such a tragic compromise?

Simón continues the path (also autobiographical, Alcarràs is the place where she grew up) that began with the short Summer 1993, he hires non-actors capable of more than credible gestures, he stages the everyday life of a world in dissolutionthe story of a crisis, which is political and generational, and a tragic deception.
