Alcaraz loses first game as the new number 1 in the world

Carlos Alcaraz has lost his first match as number 1 in the world. The 19-year-old Spaniard, who won the US Open on Sunday, went down at the Davis Cup Finals in Valencia against the Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime: 7-6 (3) 4-6 2-6.

Alcaraz joined the selection of captain Sergi Bruguera after his grand slam victory on Tuesday. He did not play in the opening game against Serbia, which Spain won 3-0.

“It’s a big win for me and for the team,” said Auger-Aliassime. “For me, because Carlos is the new number 1. But he made a big effort in New York. We have to respect him that he has already made the journey here and is participating again.”

Canada – South Korea

Canada also won the first round, 2-1 against South Korea.

Earlier on Friday, Roberto Bautista won 3-6 6-3 6-3 against Vasek Pospisil, so that the doubles will decide Spain against Canada.
