Album for the David Bowie documentary “Moonage Daydream” will be released in September

Coinciding with the release of the Bowie documentary “Moonage Daydream” by Brett Morgen, Parlophone will release a massive companion album on September 16th. The album includes live recordings, previously unheard versions and interview recordings by the artist.

This includes tracks that were specially mixed for the film. A live medley of “The Jean Genie” and “Love Me Do” with Jeff Beck on guitar can be heard here for the first time as a finished mix. The recording is from the final concert of Bowie’s fifth album tour, The Rise of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, in July 1973 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London.

The album will be released on the streaming platforms on September 16th. The CD version will follow in November, followed by the LP release in 2023.

Moonage Daydream is described as a “full-length cinematic odyssey” that explores “Bowie’s creative, musical and spiritual journey.” It is the first Bowie film to be officially sanctioned by his heirs. This gave documentary filmmaker Brett Morgen exclusive access to Bowie’s personal photo, film and sound archive. The documentary is said to contain many previously unreleased recordings, such as those from the legendary Ziggy Stardust tour. As the narrator of the film, the filmmakers let David Bowie speak for himself.

After “Cobain: Montage of Heck” about Kurt Cobain and the Rolling Stones film “Crossfire Hurricane”, this is Brett Morgen’s third major music documentary. His most recent film, Jane, about environmentalist Jane Goodall was released in 2017. “Moonage Daydream” starts in Germany on September 15th in the cinemas.
