As if time in Hilversum sometimes suddenly speeds up: TV icon Albert Verlinde has suddenly turned 65. Of course that should be celebrated, so Onno Hoes was ready with cake and roses.
Albert Verlinde reached 65 yesterday, two days before King’s Day. His birthday is on the same day as Michael van Gerwen and Femke Halsema, among others, but these are younger people. They were 37 and 60 years old respectively. It was all very festive, but Albert’s house had the biggest party, because his Onno Hoes turned out really well.

VVD prominent Onno, with whom Albert once had a major altercation during the infamous toyboy affair, spoiled the RTL 4 star. “What a treat! 65 years and a beautiful cake and 65 red roses from Onno 💕💕,” he writes Instagram.
It is a round, light-colored cake with a smooth marzipan layer, finished with a fairly neat white decorative edge that has been sprayed on with extreme precision. On top are a few dark red roses that neatly match the bouquet next to it, and in the middle it simply says ‘Albert 65’.

It is an exciting time for Albert. Now that the plug is being pulled from RTL Tonight, his TV future is uncertain. He can return to Today Inside, where he played the stand-in Gijp on Wednesdays, or he can stay at RTL 4 to join his old TV child RTL Boulevard. Or perhaps Renze Klamer’s new late evening…
The only question is whether Renze is even waiting for that. He will soon have to make a fresh start and will have little need for faces that are still too reminiscent of the failed RTL Tonight.
Fortunately, Albert can always join Onno. He has now exchanged the toyboys for cake and roses.
