Albert Verlinde today exchanges Inside for a prominent role at RTL Tonight. According to Mediaconner Victor Vlam, that is mainly financially driven. “He will take a monthly salary per evening there.”
The news about Albert Verlinde’s switch from today Inside to the new RTL Tonight came as a thunderbolt last week in clear sky. He shouted for a long time that he did not want to sit at the table too often at VI, but will soon join two or three times a week as a regular guest in RTL Tonight, the successor to Beau, Humberto and Renze.
‘Really surprised’
Why does Albert leave? “It really came as a very big surprise,” says TV critic Victor Vlam in the podcast Victor explains TV. “I was really very surprised. I didn’t see this coming at all and I didn’t see that coming, because Albert always said in the past that he didn’t want to sit at the table at all more often at VI.”
Just before he was announced as a weekly raid-Gijp, Albert told New Revu that he wanted to be in VI twice a month. “Why is he now sitting at RTL Tonight two or three times a week? What has changed? Well, I think there are two explanations.”
Matter of money

How much will Albert take? “At VI he may get 1,500 euros per broadcast. I think that is realistic, because I think all table guests get that there. Well, it could be that he can earn double at RTL Tonight to the Driedubbele. So that means you get around 3,000 to 4,500 euros per broadcast.”
Monthly salary

The MediaDuder continues: “I think there is another reason to play a role and that is that he gets more chance at RTL Tonight, gets more room for the promotion of his musicals. That is one of those things that simply does not work so well in VI, because Johan Derksen does not have that much with it. The culture of the program is not really there.”
Musical promotion
Albert used to use RTL Boulevard as a stage to extensively bring his musicals to the attention, but that didn’t really work in VI. “That culture does not have that much with musicals. It is a bit too much a macho culture there, so it is a bit harder to sell it there.”
Victor continues: “Albert occasionally got room for it, but I suspect that he will really get a lot and much more room for it at RTL Tonight. Every musical from Albert will, just like in Boulevard in the past, will be discussed very extensively. Those musicals, that are really his child, his soul and his bliss.”
