ALBA Berlin wins in the German Europe duel against FC Bayern

Alba Berlin’s basketball team clinched their first win in the EuroLeague against FC Bayern Munich, ending their negative run against their big rivals.

The team around the strong national player Maodo Lo prevailed in Munich on Friday with 76:75 (38:37) and triumphed in the eternal duel for the first time after three defeats. At the same time, the Berliners Munich took the last chance for the play-offs in the EuroLeague.

“We weren’t consistent enough and missed a few throws. There are days like that, we won’t worry too much about that,” said Munich’s Andreas Obst on “MagentaSport”. Alba’s Tamir Blatt said: “It’s the biggest rivalry in German basketball, we’ve invested a lot – the win feels great.”

The best thrower was Lo (16 points), who – although slightly injured – kept the overview even in the hectic final phase. Yannick Wetzell was also in a good mood, the New Zealander contributed eleven points to the success of the Berliners and sank the decisive shot shortly before the end.

Andrea Trinchieri’s Munich side found it difficult to get into the game and were initially behind. Led by former NBA pros Cassius Winston (14 points) and Isaac Bonga (12) and international Niels Giffey (11), Bayern came back and initially took the lead in the third quarter.

However, the German champions from Berlin remained stubborn and always within striking distance. The lead kept changing in the final quarter. The decision brought a strong action from Lo, who served Wetzell under the basket. The last throw from Bayern’s fruit clearly missed the target.
