Alba Berlin wins basketball thriller in Milan

Double winner Alba Berlin also won his second game in the basketball EuroLeague and caused a big surprise in a thriller.

Coach Israel Gonzalez’s team won 80-74 (70-70, 38-30) after extra time against the Italian champions Emporio Armani Milan, led by German national player Johannes Voigtmann, and showed great nerves of steel against the three-time winner of Europe’s most important club competition.

Two minutes before the end of regular time, Alba was leading 70:65, but lost the lead. In extra time, however, the Berliners found their way back to their line and managed a 6-0 run in the last 80 seconds.

Tamir Blatt and Jaleen Smith were the best shooters for Alba with 13 points each, while Voigtmann had to be content with five points for Milan. Next Berlin opponent is on Wednesday in the German capital Panathinaikos Athens.
