Alba Berlin stops bankruptcy series in Euro League

Bundesliga leader Alba Berlin has stopped its week-long slide in the EuroLeague. After six defeats in a row, the German basketball champions won 87:72 (39:44) at the Serbian cup winners Roter Stern Belgrade on Friday evening and secured their first win in the European elite league since the beginning of January.

After a weak first quarter, the Berliners fought their way back into the game and, thanks to a 10-0 run, pulled away decisively at the beginning of the final section. The best thrower for Israel Gonzales’ team was the outstanding international Maodo Lo with 24 points.

Despite the sense of achievement, it is almost impossible for Alba to reach the playoff quarterfinals. Nine games before the end of the main round, the gap in eighth place is still six wins.
