Alaba with torn cruciate ligament – European Championship in danger

Austrian national player David Alaba suffered a torn cruciate ligament in Real Madrid’s game against Villarreal – his participation in the European Championship is in danger.

During the examinations, the Austrian national soccer player was diagnosed with a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, Real Madrid announced on Sunday evening (December 17, 2023). Alaba is scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming days and will be out for months.

The season could already be over for the former Bayern professional, and a start at the European Championships in Germany (June 14th to July 14th) is also questionable. Alaba was injured in the first half of Sunday’s 4-1 (2-0) home win against Villarreal FC and had to be substituted. Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke afterwards of “very sad news”. Many fellow players received well-wishes via social networks.
