Alaba shoots Real with first ball contact to victory over promoted Almería | NOW

Real Madrid started the competition on Sunday evening thanks to a goal from David Alaba with a 1-2 win over newly promoted Almeria. As a substitute, the Austrian scored the winning goal with his first contact with the ball.

Alaba came on the field fifteen minutes before the end and was immediately allowed to score for a free kick about twenty meters from the goal. The thirty-year-old defender beautifully shot the ball through the post and thus prevented a bad start to the competition for the reigning national champion.

Real Madrid dominated almost the entire game against Almería, but initially failed to express that in the score. The team of coach Carlo Ancelotti even fell behind in the sixth minute, after which Lucas Vázquez signed for the equalizer after more than an hour of play.

With the win, Real Madrid continues the good line of last season. ‘De Koninklijke’ became champion last season with a difference of thirteen points compared to FC Barcelona and captured the Champions League title. Earlier this week, the European Super Cup was won.

Due to the 1-2 win over Almería, Real Madrid immediately ends up back at FC Barcelona. The rival from Catalonia started the season on Saturday with a scoreless draw against Rayo Vallecano. Atlético Madrid start the season on Monday with a visit to Getafe.
