The Ajax Women have drawn 2-2 against Arsenal in the first match in the last preliminary round of the CL. Especially in the second half, the team from Amsterdam had a hard time and the home team dominated.
Great start
After five minutes of football, the Ajax Women got the first chance of the match. Pelova became dangerous with a nice shot, but Arsenal keeper Zinsberger managed to turn the bet. The Amsterdammers remained dangerous. Sherida Spitse shot well from a distance. Moments later, striker Romee Leuchter neatly tapped in after a nice Ajax attack.
After that, the team from London became stronger. After 23 minutes of football, the score was level again. Blackstenius tapped in from close range after the ball landed in front of her feet from a corner.
Hold on
Arsenal were the stronger side in the second half. Ajax found out early on because Kim Little managed to use a penalty. The home team got stronger and stronger and hit the post twice. Against the odds, the North Hollanders came alongside with Leuchter’s second goal of the evening.
In the final phase, a hit by Katie McCabe was disallowed for offside. Still, the Ajax Women held their ground somewhat happily. This allows Ajax to keep track of the group stage in the Champions League.
Next Wednesday is the return in Amsterdam.
