It went for Ajax with hanging and strangling against FC Volendam. The Amsterdam formation came to 3-0, after which the Palingboeren seemed to come back to 3-3. Henk Veerman’s hit was disallowed for offside. Davy Klaassen scored deep in injury time, after which the victory was a fact: 2-4.
Ajax started with the same eleven names as against Napoli. Alfred Schreuder, however, opted for a number of changes. Calvin Bassey started as left back, Daley Blind played central in the back, Steven Bergwijn was on 10 and Dusan Tadic was the left winger. Oskar Buur made his debut at FC Volendam, while Bilal Ould-Chikh was absent due to a suspension. Robert Mühren immediately had a great opportunity, but he found Remko Pasveer on his way. After this, several opportunities were created for Volendam. However, it was Ajax that took the lead.
Steven Berghuis came through on the left, after which Brian Plat made hands in the penalty area. Dusan Tadic then shot the penalty impeccably in: 0-1. That was his first of the season. The team from Amsterdam then remained the most dangerous team. Mohammed Kudus had a great chance, but Filip Stankovic was able to save. Volendam was very dangerous via Gaetano Oristanio. First Pasveer had to keep a header out of the goal and moments later the Italian tried a bicycle kick. Just before half time, Bassey headed the second goal of the afternoon on a pass from Berghuis: 0-2.

Comeback Volendam
Ibrahim El Kadiri created the first danger in the second half. He shot the ball just over the goal. In the counterpunch it was Berghuis who became dangerous twice. First he hit the post and a few minutes later Xavier Mbuyamba had to take a bet off the line. Stankovic kept his team going by turning a bet from Bassey. Substitute Brian Brobbey did take care of the 3-0 at the request of Jurriën Timber. The game seemed decided by this goal, but nothing could be further from the truth.
Out of nowhere, substitute Lequincio Zeefuik shot the ball under Pasveer and made it exciting again. Henk Veerman, who had also come on, had a huge opportunity a minute later. He knocked the ball right past the goal, so Ajax got away well. It was completely squeezing for the team from Amsterdam, after Carel Eiting scored on a pass from El Kadiri. Henk Veerman even scored the 3-3, but it was disallowed for offside. A goal by Davy Klaassen put an end to all uncertainty: 2-4.
Due to the narrow victory, Ajax takes the lead again from AZ, while FC Volendam remains the last. The team from Amsterdam will play against Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday. Volendam will play against FC Emmen on Friday.
