Ajax scores big against Vitesse and is back in the left row of the Premier League

Ajax has left the bottom places of the Premier League behind it. Thanks to the victory over last-place Vitesse, the team, which was last at the beginning of the month, climbs to eighth place in the competition.

Since John van ‘t Schip has been at the helm, Ajax has regained some knowledge of what winning is. After the team was stuck with one win for a long time at the beginning of the season, two more victories were added in a few days at the beginning of November.

Revenge

It has also been seen in recent weeks that the leak has not been resolved. After a home defeat against Brighton, Ajax drew 2-2 at Premier League newcomer Almere City in the previous match.

Due to the international break, it took two weeks before Ajax could take revenge. The players didn’t seem to be able to wait for that. In the Arena, where F-Side was not present due to a penalty from the KNVB, John van ‘t Schip’s team took off.

With players like Ar’Jany Martha and Chuba Akpom (replacing the injured Brian Brobbey) in the starting line-up, Ajax took the lead within four minutes. The goal was scored by Jorrel Hato, who scored his official first goal in the first. The brand new international stormed into Vitesse’s sixteen during an attack and scored coolly on a pass from Steven Bergwijn.

After a quick goal by Vitesse’s Saïd Hamulić was disallowed for offside, Ajax doubled the lead in the twelfth minute via Kristian Hlynsson. A mediocre Vitesse did little in return, which meant that Ajax hardly encountered any problems in the first half.

Akpom

After the break, Ajax picked up the scoring again. Chuba Akpom played a leading role in this. The English striker, who has been stringing together goals since the change of manager, led in Dominik Oroz’s own goal after five minutes and moments later made it 4-0, his fifth of the season.

Kenneth Taylor then delivered perhaps the best performance of the evening. The midfielder was handed the ball in the penalty area, played two defenders out with his right and then shot in hard with his left: 5-0. Just before the end, Georges Mikautadze had another chance to make it 6-0, but his shot was saved by Vitesse keeper Eloy Room.

With the victory, Ajax is now eighth in the Premier League. Of the clubs that still play tomorrow, only Almere City has a chance of surpassing that number this weekend.
