Ajax remains last in the group after losing to Brighton & Hove Albion

In the Europa League, Ajax lost 2-0 to Brighton & Hove Albion. The Amsterdam team did not create any clear-cut opportunities in the first half. That worked in the second half, but the focus was not on focus: something that Brighton had in order.

The Amsterdam team started the match well. Ajax became dangerous through shots from Steven Berghuis and Kristian Hlynsson. Yet Brighton took the lead after an incorrect pass from Silvano Vos. The English struck immediately and Ansu Fati scored the first goal of the evening.

Ajax did not play a bad first half, but did not create any clear-cut opportunities. That resulted in the 0-1 halftime score.

After the break, Ajax started the remainder of the match poorly. Simon Adingra was able to shoot in free of charge and so the margin was two in favor of the English. Trainer John van ‘t Schip tried to change the game with a number of substitutions. That worked reasonably well.

No luck

The visitors remained dangerous. Yet Ajax was close to the tying goal in the 70th minute. Brian Brobbey’s effort just missed the goal via both posts. A few minutes later, Carlos Forbs was also close to scoring. His attempt went wide.

Ajax was eagerly looking for the tying goal and played full on attack. However, the team from Amsterdam did not manage to score tonight. And so Ajax lost 2-0 to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The loss leaves Ajax last in the group. In group B of the Europa League, AEK Athens and Olympique Marseille will play against each other later tonight.
