Ajax players Leuchter and Pelova help the Netherlands to the quarterfinals at the European Championships

Romée Leuchter and Victoria Pelova have rendered the Netherlands an excellent service. The Ajax players came on in the second half against Switzerland and helped the team to the victory. The Orange squad won 4-1 and qualified for the quarter-finals at the European Championship in England.

Jackie Groenen returned to the base with the Dutch national team. Only halfway through the first half, the Orange squad managed to win the game. Lineth Beerensteyn tricked the referee, got a penalty, but the video referee reversed the schwalbe. On the other hand, Daphne van Domselaar was important just before with a nice save.

Van der Gragt

Because Sweden was ahead, the Netherlands knew that it should in any case not lose to the Swiss. Five minutes after the break, the same trick followed with a corner kick as against Portugal. Stefanie van der Gragt headed the ball on goal from a corner by Sherida Spitse and saw the ball end up in the goal via a Swiss: 1-0. The Orange could only enjoy the lead for a few minutes, as Leuteler tapped the ball past Van Domselaar after a defensive shot: 1-1.

The Swiss smelled blood after the equalizer and appeared twice in front of the Orange goal. Van Domselaar had a strong save and saw the ball hit the post moments later. It seemed that Van Domselaar had to stop the fight, because for some time she was injured on the ground. Still, the Oudkarspelse was able to finish the match.

With Romée Leuchter and Victoria Pelova within the lines, Orange got fresh blood. Leuchter seized her chance and headed the Netherlands to the lead. Pelova tapped the Orange to the liberating 3-1 just before time, after the VAR had checked for a few minutes whether Van der Gragt deliberately got the ball in an offside position. Leuchter also scored her second of the evening on a pass from Pelova and thus led the Orange to a 4-1 victory.

Thanks to the victory, the Netherlands finishes second in the group, behind Sweden. That place entitles you to a place in the quarterfinals of the European Championship in England. The opponent in France.
