Ajax affects, among other things, the heavy opponents Chelsea and Inter and PSV plays against top clubs Liverpool and Bayern in the competition phase of the Champions League. This was evident from the draw that former footballers Kaká and Zlatan Ibrahimovic performed in Monaco on Thursday.
The Amsterdammers play at home against Inter, Benfica, Olympiakos, Galatasaray and out at Chelsea, Villarreal, Olympique Marseille and Qarabag.
The Eindhoven team meet Bayern Munich, Atlético Madrid, Napoli, Union St. Gillis in their own Philips Stadium and play against Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen, Olympiakos and Newcastle United.
Just like last season, UEFA works with a competition round, which determines which of the 36 participating clubs flow to the knockout rounds, instead of the former group phase that, according to critics, had become too predictable. After the competition phase, the best 8 clubs qualify for the next round. The number 9 to 24 compete in a play-off round to determine who can play against the best 8. The remaining clubs are eliminated. The first round of the competition round takes place between 16 and 18 September, the last round is on January 28.
The final will be played in the Puskás Aréna in Budapest next year next year. The time of that match is early from 21 to 6 pm, so that young football supporters can also watch live.
