Ajax lose 3rd high-profile to Premier League: Kudus to West Ham

Only Haller at “Hammers” more expensive

Ajax Amsterdam have lost their third top-flight to the Premier League this summer after (for €40m to Arsenal) and (for €38m to West Ham). West Ham United announced on Sunday the signing of Mohammed Kudus, who joins Álvarez at the east London side. Together, the trio has a total value of 117 million euros, and the added fees are also included in this range.

According to Ajax, a transfer fee of 43 million euros will flow, which could increase to up to 46 million euros. According to “The Athletic”, the Dutch also secured a resale participation of ten percent. As with Timber and Álvarez, this deal means a whopping plus for the Dutch record champions after Kudus was signed in 2020 for €9m.

This takes Amsterdam’s earnings to €156.4m, only twice in their history have they collected more from player sales in one season. On the expenditure side, there are 78.3 million euros.

At West Ham, Kudus has become the club’s second-most expensive signing – only Sébastien Haller costing more on his arrival from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019/20. In addition, he is now the second most expensive Ghanaian in history. Before the “Hammers”, Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion had also shown interest in a transfer, and the left-footed player is said to have reached an agreement in principle with Brighton before the exchange game took a turn.
