Coach Schreuder upset
90 million euros were not enough for Ajax, now Manchester United has actually increased the offer for winger Antony (22) again and seems to be finally successful. According to information from the Dutch newspaper “De Telegraaf” and transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano accepts the Eredivisie champions a new offer from England for almost 100 million euros. Also “The Athletic“ had reported on Sunday about an improved proposal to the Amsterdamers, which was estimated at £84 million, i.e. just over EUR 99 million. The club has never received more money for a player.

It was reported on Friday that a 90 million offer from the Red Devils had been rejected. But the Brazilian really wants the transfer. Antony told Romano: “In February, my agents came to Amsterdam to inform Ajax of my desire to leave the club. (…) In June, I interrupted my vacation and came personally to inform the managers of Ajax, including the new coach, of my wish. (…) During the transfer window, talks continued and I also received an offer from Ajax to extend my contract. I made it clear once again: I want to leave.”
The fact that Ajax now apparently agrees goes against the wishes of coach Alfred Schreuder. He was revealed to “ESPN” (quoted via “VI‘) disappointed and said that such a situation as now with Antony, who has already missed the last two games because of the forthcoming change, would have been ‘unthinkable before’, ‘but today it’s all about the money. It is unfortunate that such things happen.” Schreuder did not comment further on whether the offer was actually accepted. He himself does not want to give up another player.
Ajax before a transfer record in one season – billions in revenue since 2019
With the sale of Lisandro Martínez (Man United), Sebastien Haller (BVB) and Ryan Gravenberch (FC Bayern), among others, Ajax has already generated a total of a good 121 million euros in proceeds from player sales. The almost 100 million euros for Antony would now even increase the capital club’s income to a record value. Ajax have never conceded more than 220 million euros in a season, although the previous record, 218 million euros in the 2019/20 season (including the winter transfer window), was similarly high. Since the summer transfer window three years ago, player sales have already brought around 1 billion euros into the record champions’ coffers.
Antony had further told Romano: “I’m not asking Ajax to release me, I’m asking Ajax to sell me with the highest bid ever for an Eredivisie player.” switched to Ajax. Since then he has provided 24 goals and 22 assists in 82 games. With the United transfer, he would become the most expensive player to leave the Eredivisie. So far, Frenkie de Jong, who joined FC Barcelona for €86m in 2019, holds this rank.
