Ajax finds John Heitinga’s successor in the U21 team in Dave Vos

Ajax has found John Heitinga’s successor to finish the season at Jong Ajax. Dave Vos returns to De Toekomst and will lead the U21 team until the end of the season. The 39-year-old coach previously worked as a youth coach with the team from Amsterdam.

“I am a real Ajax player and owe a lot to the club,” says Vos on the Ajax website. “That is why I like to give something back now that Ajax is calling on me again. I know the group of players well from my previous period at the club and I am very excited to help the players in their final steps towards the highest level.”

After John Heitinga took over from Alfred Schreuder in Ajax’s first team, assistant coach Michel Kreek was in charge of the group. Kreek will once again become assistant to Jong Ajax under Vos. The rest of the coaching staff will remain the same.

Vos used to work in Ajax’s youth academy. He trained, among others, the Under 17 and Under 18 of Ajax. At Jong Ajax he was assistant coach under Mitchell van der Gaag. In November 2021 he left for Rangers FC where he was assistant coach under Giovanni van Bronckhorst. Vos also recently completed the Professional Football Coach course.
