The arrival of Mislintat was in the air for a while after Ajax failed to reach an agreement with Liverpool director Julian Ward. The club then entered into talks with the unemployed German. Mislintat was in Amsterdam for a few days last week, where he already largely came to an agreement with the club management. In recent days, a deal on a multi-year commitment followed and the last wrinkles were ironed out.

Mislintat previously worked as a scout for Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal. At the German top club, he had a share in numerous direct hits, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Shinji Kagawa and Ousmane Dembele. Since then he has also been known as the talent spotter with ‘diamond eyes’.

In London they saw less of that. Mislintat left Arsenal after more than a year to start working as a director at Stuttgart. He left the current relegation candidate in November. One of his latest achievements was a conversation with Peter Bosz, the trainer who is now linked to Ajax.

Mislintat can start immediately in the capital. The ambitious Ajax has yet to make a decision whether the moved John Heitinga can stay on as head coach. In addition, the driver must catch up with the selection, which did not survive a European round after a failed transformation and is about to be dethroned by arch-rival Feyenoord as national champions.
