Fans of the Dutch record champions Ajax Amsterdam caused the game against Feyenoord Rotterdam to be abandoned.
At this point Rotterdam was leading 3-0. Ajax fans had already caused interruptions in the first half by setting off and throwing pyrotechnics. When flares flew onto the pitch again in the 55th minute, referee Serdar Gözübüyük whistled off the game.
As a result, riots broke out in front of the stadium, some fans clashed with the police and threw paving stones. Players and coaches from both teams stayed in the dressing rooms, and journalists were also not allowed to leave the stadium for security reasons.
“This has nothing to do with football and being a fan. You are playing with the safety of the players, their fellow fans and themselves. Shame on you,” Justice Minister Dilan Yesilgöz-Zegerius wrote on X.
With just one point from their first five games, Ajax have made their worst start to the season since 1965. Coach Maurice Steijn and sports director Sven Mislintat have been criticized.
