Ajax and Edwin van der Sar will remain connected for longer. In November, the General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) must decide whether the extension will become official. The new contract will run until the summer of 2025.
After his active football career, the former goalkeeper of Fulham, Juventus and Manchester, among others, started working as director of marketing for the current national champions in November 2012. Exactly four years later he was appointed general manager and together with technical director Marc Overmars he led the club back to the European top.
Despite having been with the club for ten years, Van der Sar says that there are still new goals to be achieved. “From 2024, the structure of the European tournaments will change and we want to participate in the changed Champions League every year. That journey is not over yet and I would like to continue to contribute to it,” said Van der Sar.

Van der Sar’s extension was announced this afternoon, but not quite yet. It has to do with the current appointment procedure. After the General Meeting of Shareholders on November 11, the extension of the former international will be officially completed.
