Ajax has won the last match of the group stage of the Champions League. The club from Amsterdam was too strong for Rangers FC (3-1) in Glasgow. Steven Berghuis and Mohammed Kudus scored before half time. James Tavernier converted a penalty for the home team in the 87th minute, after which substitute Francisco Conceição determined the final score.

Ajax has finished third in the group, a position that entitles them to two matches in February for a place in the eighth finals of the Europa League. Rangers FC had to beat Ajax with a difference of five goals to finish third.

Owen Wijndal was injured at Ajax in the final phase of the first half. The left-back had been preferred over Daley Blind, who remained on the bench at Ibrox Stadium for the entire game. Wijndal was involved in Ajax’s first two goals.

Ajax will defend the top position of the Eredivisie in a home game with PSV on Sunday.
