Debt-ridden French champagne house Maison Pommery, founded by Belgian Paul-François Vranken, has entered into exclusive negotiations with German sparkling wine producer Henkell for a period of two months, with a view to a “strategic partnership”. Maison Pommery reports this.

“This proposed partnership between two family businesses would lead to the creation of a global sparkling wine player, benefiting from a portfolio of strong and complementary brands, as well as an international commercial presence,” Maison Pommery said in a press release.

Should the project succeed, Henkell would become the majority shareholder of Maison Pommery, Vranken Pommery’s new name since January, the company said.
