Sttasera at 20.35 live on Rai 1 goes on air Arena di Verona – One hundred years in one night. A unique event to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Arena Opera Festival with one of lyrical works most famous and appreciated of all time: Aida by Giuseppe Verdi. The show will be broadcast simultaneously on Rai Radio 3, streaming on RaiPlaywhere it will be available for the next 7 days, and worldwide via the signal distributed by the European Broadcasting Union.

Four hours of live coverage, complete with subtitlesto make Verdi’s masterpiece known to as wide an audience as possible. The working group is made up of 15 peopletogether with the technical team of the Rai TV Production Center in Milan, formed in turn by 65 among cameramen, microphone operators, audio and video techniciansinspectors, staff of direction and audio and video shooting, set designer, lighting technicians and the inevitable department of makeup, hair and costumes.
On stage, 19 high definition cameras – specifically, a spidercam, a lift, two steadicams and a drone – and 72 microphones between the orchestra pit and stage. An important deployment of forces, which underlines the commitment made by Rai to offer viewers a special evening, directed by Fabrizio Guttuso Alaimo.
The musical director is Marco Amiliato, at the helm of the Arena di Verona Orchestra. The director is Stefano PodaWhile the artistic cast sees the presence of Anna Netrebko. The partnership between the famous soprano and the works of Giuseppe Verdi it is long-standing. In his career, she performed some of his most important works. The work is set at the time of the war between Egypt and Ethiopia. Aida, daughter of the Ethiopian king, is a slave in Egypt. No one knows her true identity and during her stay she falls in love with Radamès, the captain of the Egyptian guards. She is reciprocated, but theirs is an impossible love, because Radamès is betrothed to Amneris, the pharaoh’s daughter.
Later also Aida’s father, Amonasro, is captured and enslaved. The king is aware of the influence of her daughter on her Radamès and pushes her to reveal the path that the Egyptian troops will follow to try to conquer Ethiopia. The commander falls into Aida’s trap and, desperate for having revealed the military secret, gives himself up as a traitor to his country to the guards.
Amneris begs the pharaoh and the priests to forgive him, but the man is sentenced to be buried alive. Then Aida, equally desperate for the fate of her beloved, hides in the crypt to be buried alive with him.
