The “case Claudia Pechstein” has ended after over 16 years. The team of the five-time ice skating Olympic champion surprisingly announced an agreement in years of dispute over for damages with the World Association ISU on Monday. The ISU confirmed the agreement on RTL demand.
“As the negotiator of the Pechstein team, I hereby officially announced in prior consultation with ISU that the Pechstein case on February 27, 2025 has found a clear and conciliatory end after over 16 years,” said life partner and DesG President Matthias Große. Pechstein shared the post on her Facebook page with the heading “Finally”.
Details about the agreement did not give Great. The ISU will publish more information promptly, it said in the statement. A press conference of the Pechstein camp will also be scheduled in the coming week. The Munich Higher Regional Court, where the case was last negotiated in October, was “nothing known” about an agreement on Monday, the court said on “SID” request.
Pechstein moved to court for “indirect doping evidence”
In 2009 Pechstein was discovered striking blood values, the ISU blocked it for two years due to the “indirect doping evidence” introduced by the Welt-Anti-Doping agency Wada, the CAS sports court confirmed the lock.
Pechstein moved to the fight, including the Swiss Federal Supreme Court, the European Court of Justice or the Federal Constitutional Court. This gave Pechstein’s complaint in 2022: The CAS procedure is said to have been unfair, their claim for damages is permitted. Pechstein leads a blood tanomaly inherited from her father, the case has become an expert dispute.
Most recently, the OLG Munich had dealt with the case in October 2024 and postponed the procedure. The next negotiation day originally scheduled for February 13th was later postponed to April 10th. Apparently, both sides now agreed on a comparison.
