Agnes Mulder becomes the new King’s Commissioner in Drenthe. She was recommended this afternoon by the Drenthe Parliament to the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations.

Mulder, 52, lives in Assen and has been director of VNO-NCW MKB Noord since June 2023. From September 20, 2012 to May 9, 2023 she was a Member of Parliament on behalf of the CDA. She was a member of Parliament in Drenthe from 2003 to 2010.

Jan Brouwer, chairman of the confidential committee, describes Mulder as “someone with broad administrative experience”. “Her network extends from The Hague to the Northern Netherlands and also includes the business community. A connector with an eye and heart for Drenthe society.” The new commissioner is appointed for a period of six years.

Mulder must succeed Jetta Klijnsma, who will leave on December 1. Her term formally lasts until March 18, 2027, but she previously announced that she would not remain in office for that period. The former State Secretary for Social Affairs has been a commissioner in Drenthe since December 1, 2017.

According to Klijnsma, the new commissioner can prepare well for the elections and the new administrative period in the near future. “It will then be introduced before the new Provincial Council and the new Board of Provincial Executive take office. This benefits the continuity of the provincial government. I think a seamless transition is very important,” says Klijnsma.
