Aggression is part of sport | Statement of the Day

‘We can be a bit more aggressive, for example’, spectators of sports competitions often shout when they play too defensively. But when the teams really fight each other, like last week PKC’83 and Blauw Wit’34, the fun usually wears off quickly.

The players of PKC’83 and Blauw Wit’34 have not yet decided who started and who asked for it. PKC has apologized and Blauw Wit has accepted it, but the KNVB still thinks that PKC should be on the hook for another week or two (read: at home on the couch).

Both in amateur football and in the Eredivisie, players regularly kick each other instead of the ball. In other team sports, too, emotions sometimes run so high that players fight each other.

Understandably, a good athlete is fanatical and then you sometimes forget that it is just a game. Or should even the most fanatical athletes be able to control themselves in the heat of the (sports) battle?
