The Spanish La Liga is facing a premiere: FC Villarreal and FC Barcelona want to play out of Ligadul outside of Spain shortly before the winter break – a game is planned in Miami.
The Spanish Football Association RFEF approved on Monday to process the application of both clubs to move their encounter on match day 17 to Florida – the current adopted home of the former Barca icon Lionel Messi. A league game of the highest Spanish division outside of Spain has never taken place.
Approval of the UEFA is still missing
After examining the documents, the RFEF plans to forward the application to the European Football Union UEFA. This must obtain the approval so that the World Association FIFA can finally decide on the termination.
It is planned that the game will take place on December 20, 2025 at the hard rock stage-according to the FIFA regulations for international games and the applicable RFEF provisions. However, games outside the national borders are not completely new for Spanish football. The Supercup has been played in Saudi Arabia since 2020. The Corona season was an exception.
