Manchester United will be back in the UEFA Champions League in 2026/27 after a two-year break. On Sunday, the Red Devils won the Premier League in front of 74,027 fans against arch-rivals and defending champion Liverpool FC 3-2 (2-0). Coach Michael Carrick’s team can no longer be pushed out of the top five places with 64 points. These certainly qualify for the premier class. The Reds, meanwhile, still have to tremble a bit with currently 58 points.

Ex-Bundesliga strikers Matheus Cunha (6th) and Benjamin Sesko (14th), who is still clearly on the rise under Carrick, had given United the lead at Old Trafford. In the second half, however, Dominik Szoboszlai (47′) and Cody Gakpo (56′) equalized in Liverpool’s favor. Red Devils homegrown Kobbie Mainoo, who only extended his contract until 2031 during the week, scored the winner in the 77th minute.
