The proposal to limit the plans for the Energy Park at Oosterleek was the result of growing Resistance among residents. They were attacked by the size of the project of developer Abo Energy: an area of 32 hectares with solar panels, energy storage and two wind turbines of 250 meters high.

The Energiepark is intended as a contribution to the Regional Energy Strategy (RES), with which Drechterland wants to be energy neutral in 2040. Nevertheless, local politics also finds the project too large -scale and the council has decided to put the brakes on the brakes.

Despite information about RES, surprised

Council members indicated that they were surprised by the large -scale, responsible alderman Sjon Wagenaar spoke about a plan ‘that fell out of the sky’ and ‘hit like a bomb’. While less than a year ago a majority agreed with the RES, where the area between him and Oosterleek was also drawn as a location for these types of initiatives.

“We have had insufficiently sharp, which could have been the most extreme consequences. That insight was missing, and we now want to correct it,” said David van Gelderen of Progressive Drechterland. His CDA colleague Jan Klein Swormink was also not enthusiastic about what he called ‘panic football’. “We have talked about the res for years and now suddenly come up with measures. But we support them, because the plans are too massive.”
