Again, Prolander has dug a ditch in a place other than originally intended, in the area of Geelbroek. Prolander is working on nature on behalf of the province. There is now a long and deep channel on a piece of land south of the neighborhood, where it is different in the plans.

It is not the first time that Prolander in the area digs a ditch in a different place than on the project cards. A month ago, workmen west of Geelbroek groove a ditch of tens of meters, while there was no permit for that. Prolander had to dampen that ditch again and did that.

This time the workmen should have deepened two existing locks, but did not. Instead, they groove a new deep channel about fifty meters away. It is now tight against a field. Farmers from the area rang the bell after they compared the project cards with the actual ditch.

Arable farmer Henk Stoffers wants to renovate onions and corn on the field where the ditch is now located. He fears that this will make the agricultural land wetter. “If my onions get too wet, they put on bacteria or turn brown. I can’t sell them anymore,” sighs of dust. He wants Prolander to close the ditch.

Upon inquiring by RTV Drenthe, it appears that the ditch was deliberately dug in a different place, at the request of Staatsbosbeheer. But at Prolander it is not immediately clear whether the work fits within the permit issued for it.

The municipality of Aa and Hunze has granted the permits for the nature project. A spokesperson says that it does indeed look like the ditch is in the wrong place. The spokesperson does not yet know whether Prolander should dampen this ditch.

The enforcers of the municipality to see whether the Prolander’s action is allowed according to the permit. “Based on that, we look at whether the ditch should be filled in or not.”
