Again things went wrong on the Koopmansplein in Assen. Two groups of young people fought each other on Saturday evening, after which the police extinguished the square and the surrounding area. During the search, agents encountered several Stanleym lessons.

For the VVD in Assen, the size is now full: Following the fight, the party sent a letter with questions to the Executive Board. The local department of the party wonders, among other things, whether it is already clear who the groups were quarreling young people and why there is no camera surveillance on the square yet.

“We have been worried about safety in the city center for some time,” says Michiel Hasslacher (VVD), who takes on the safety portfolio in the municipality. “A motion was submitted and accepted before the summer, which requests the mayor to set up camera surveillance on Koopmansplein. Why is there still no camera surveillance?”, Hasslacher wonders.

In addition to camera surveillance, the VVD also has questions about the area bans of one night, which the police have imposed on the quarreling young people. “It is incomprehensible that these area bans are only for one night. We would rather focus on a ban of a few months.”
