The match between AZ and Ajax was also on the program last season in the KNVB Cup. The Alkmaarders then won 2-0 at home in the eighth final. In 2022, the clubs in the cup played the semi-finals against each other and in 2021 the eighth finals. Ajax won both those matches.
FC Volendam will meet next Sunday’s opponent in the Premier League in the cup. The only difference is that it plays at home in the competition and travels to Het Kasteel in the cup.
Telstar awaits another away match. The Velsen residents visit Almere City, which plays football in the first division.
Cup week
All four North Holland professional clubs were included in the draw. AZ had already settled with PEC Zwolle two weeks ago (1-3). Telstar switched on the amateurs from Hoek on Tuesday out, Ajax scored (2-7) against the amateurs of Excelsior Maassluis and FC Volendam needed an extension against Genemuiden: 2-0.
It was striking that only one amateur club managed to advance to the eighth finals. De Treffers eliminated Sportlust last night. AFC was eliminated by NEC on Tuesday.
The eighth finals of the KNVB Cup will soon be on the agenda. The matches will be played on January 13, 14 and 15. The exact performance dates will be announced later.
